How the System Discourages People from Getting Help...
This post is about various things that can happen to you in my state/province. Laws may vary by country and state but I urge anyone to look into their laws before they get professional help. Had I known many of the things I am about to tell you I most likely would not have gone to any so-called "professional" for help. This is not to say you shouldn't go to a professional. You definitely should, especially if you are in crisis. However, this is just to say to be careful what you tell them. I live in Canada and these are the consequences you can suffer if you go for professional help....
1) If you are ever suicidal and the police take you to the hospital they will note the suicidal visit on any future police clearance. They are called "relevant occurrence reports". Try to get a job, a volunteer position or a practicum with that now. This note stays on your clearance for 25yr and there is no official way to remove it even if you are no longer suicidal.
2) If you even think to use your car to kill yourself you will lose your license and will have a hell of a time to get it back. But u can be a drunk driver and kill 3 people for eg and after some treatment you will get the license back.
3) If you have children and are suicidal social services may become involved and you may lose custody of your children. Your spouse can also use the suicidal visits orr attempts against you in a future divorce or custody or civil suit too.
4) Depending what your plan is to kill yourself Canadian police may share that information with the USA dept of Homeland Security. Then you will not get into the USA without seeing an approved doctor and alot of red tape.
There are others...Always record anything you tell any health professional for your protection if your laws in your jurisdiction permit this and be careful what you say.
